How can we help?
Answers to the most common questions about setting up and using DoorPop on Android TV. Can't find what you need? Email support@doorpop.app — we typically reply within 48 hours.
1 Getting Started
What is DoorPop?
DoorPop is an Android TV app that shows your Ring doorbell and camera alerts right on your TV — instant doorbell presses, motion, and package detection notifications, plus Live View, without needing to pick up your phone.
What devices does DoorPop run on?
DoorPop is built for Android TV and Google TV devices, including TVs, streaming boxes and streaming sticks running Android TV OS.
Do I need a Ring account?
Yes. DoorPop connects to an existing Ring account with at least one Ring doorbell or camera already set up in the Ring app. DoorPop doesn't replace the Ring app — it's a companion display for your TV.
Is DoorPop available on Google Play yet?
DoorPop is finishing final testing ahead of its Google Play launch. Email us if you'd like to be notified when it's available.
2 Connecting Ring
How do I connect my Ring account?
From the Connect Camera screen, choose Ring. DoorPop will show a QR code — scan it with your phone's camera, and it will walk you through confirming access to your Ring account. Once confirmed, your TV connects automatically, usually within a few seconds.
The QR code isn't scanning, or it expired. What do I do?
Each QR code is valid for a few minutes for security. If it expires before you finish scanning, just go back and try again — a fresh code is generated every time. Make sure your phone has a clear, well-lit view of the screen.
DoorPop says "may already be connected." What does that mean?
Ring links your account to one DoorPop installation at a time. If you're setting up a new TV, or reinstalled the app, open the Ring app and go to Control Center > Linked Accounts, remove the existing DoorPop connection, then try scanning the QR code again on your TV.
Can I use DoorPop on more than one TV?
DoorPop currently supports one actively-connected TV per Ring account at a time. Switching TVs is easy — disconnect on the old one and scan the QR code on the new one.
How do I disconnect Ring or start over?
Go to Settings > Disconnect. This clears your Ring session from this TV, revokes this device on our backend, cancels any in-progress pairing, resets this device's identity, and returns you to the Welcome screen — a clean slate for a fresh QR pairing. If any step can't be confirmed, DoorPop tells you exactly which one instead of just saying "done." See Privacy & Data Requests below for what this means for your data, and our Privacy Policy for full details.
3 Overlay Permission
Why does DoorPop ask for "Display over other apps"?
This is what lets DoorPop pop up a doorbell notification while you're watching something in a different app — the entire point of the app. Without it, DoorPop can only show alerts while it's the app currently open on screen.
Is this permission required?
It's required for DoorPop's core "notify while watching TV" feature. DoorPop will still work without it, but alerts will only appear while DoorPop itself is the active app.
I skipped it during setup — how do I grant it later?
Go to your TV's Settings > Apps > DoorPop > Permissions (on some devices this is under Special app access > Display over other apps) and enable it. DoorPop will also prompt you again the next time it detects the permission is missing.
4 Notifications
What triggers a notification?
Doorbell presses, motion events, and package-detection events reported by your Ring devices — using the detection zones and settings you've already configured in the Ring app.
I'm not receiving notifications. What should I check?
A few things to check, in order: your TV is connected to the internet; the Ring app shows the device as online and notifications enabled for it; DoorPop still shows as Connected under Settings (reconnect if not); and the overlay permission above is granted so alerts can show while you're in another app.
Can I control how long a notification stays on screen?
Yes — Settings includes an auto-dismiss option for how long the popup stays visible before it clears itself, plus where on screen it appears.
Where can I review past doorbell events?
The Today's Activity screen keeps a running history of the day's events with thumbnails, so you can catch up on anything you missed.
5 Live View
How do I start Live View?
Tap "Live View" from a doorbell notification popup, or open any event from Today's Activity and select Live View from there.
Why does Live View take a moment to connect?
DoorPop is negotiating a secure, direct video connection to your specific Ring camera. It's normal to see a brief connecting animation before the stream appears — if it takes noticeably longer than a few seconds, check your TV's internet connection.
Does Live View support audio?
Audio support depends on the Ring device and the streaming format it offers. Two-way talk itself is designed for your phone — DoorPop lets you know on the TV the moment a conversation starts so you can pick it up there.
6 Subscription
Is DoorPop free?
DoorPop is free to use during its current early-access period.
Will there be a paid plan?
We may introduce an optional subscription in the future. If we do, it will be billed and managed entirely through Google Play Billing, and you'll see clear in-app notice before anything is ever charged.
Does DoorPop require a Ring subscription?
DoorPop itself doesn't require one, but some Ring features — like extended video history or certain Live View capabilities — may require an active Ring Protect plan, the same as they would in the Ring app.
7 Privacy & Data Requests
Full details on what we collect and why are in our Privacy Policy. This section covers the practical steps for common privacy requests.
How do I submit a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR)?
Email support@doorpop.app with "Privacy Request" or "DSAR" in the subject line, telling us what you'd like to know or receive (for example, a copy of the Ring customer data associated with your device). See Your Privacy Rights (DSAR) in our Privacy Policy for the full list of rights you can exercise this way.
How do I request deletion of my data?
The fastest way is in-app: Settings > Disconnect on your TV performs an immediate deletion of your local and backend-side data for that device (see the disconnect steps below). If you'd like written confirmation, or need us to delete records for a device you can no longer access, email support@doorpop.app with "Account Deletion" in the subject line. Because DoorPop has no separate account system beyond your Ring connection, deleting your data is the same as fully disconnecting it.
How do I disconnect my Ring account from DoorPop?
On your TV, go to Settings > Disconnect. This clears your local Ring tokens, revokes this device on our backend, clears the shared Ring session, cancels any in-progress pairing, and resets this device's local identity — a full factory reset of DoorPop's stored data for that TV. If any step can't be confirmed, DoorPop tells you exactly which one instead of just saying "done." You can also disconnect DoorPop from the Ring side at any time via the Ring app under Control Center > Linked Accounts.
What's your response time for privacy requests?
We respond to privacy, DSAR, and data deletion requests within 30 days at the maximum, in line with standard data-protection practice — usually much sooner. This is separate from our general support target of 48 hours for day-to-day questions.
Does DoorPop use my data to train AI?
No. DoorPop does not use Ring customer data to train any AI, machine learning, or generative AI system — see AI Transparency in our Privacy Policy for the full statement.
8 Troubleshooting
DoorPop says "Ring is not authenticated."
Your Ring session needs to be re-linked. Go to Settings and choose Reconnect. If that doesn't resolve it, use Disconnect (a full Factory Reset) and then pair again from a fresh QR code.
I disconnected and can't reconnect.
Make sure you've also removed DoorPop from the Ring app itself (Control Center > Linked Accounts) if you're trying to link a different or reinstalled TV — Ring treats the account link as one connection at a time. Then use Disconnect once more on the TV before scanning a new QR code.
A notification popup stayed on screen longer than expected.
Make sure you're on the latest version of DoorPop. If it happens again on the current version, restarting the app clears it, and we'd appreciate a report with your TV model and Android TV OS version.
Still stuck?
Email support@doorpop.app with your TV brand/model and a short description of what happened, and we'll take it from there.
